Chapter 1457

Eugene, OR

Welcome to our EAA Chapter 1457 website!

We hope you enjoy browsing our website where you will find information about building, restoring and flying airplanes, as well as learning about everything related to the joys of flying.

EAA Chapter 1457 meets the first Monday of each month at Mahlon Sweet Airport, Eugene or a nearby location. We often start at 18:00 hours with a pre-meeting dinner at Willamette Grill Restaurant or a BBQ, with the formal meeting called to order at 19:00 and generally lasting about 2 hours. You may want to contact us due to occasional program or location changes.

If you're interested in flying, building or just love aviation, come join the fun! We are eager to see you at our next meeting!

September Meeting

The September 11th meeting will be at the Noble Estates Winery "Urban" tasting room.
There is comfortable room for 100 or so guests. This tasting room has inside and outside seating. Therefore,  please bring your spouse or significant other. In addition,  if you have a friend that would be interested in joining us,  please invite one more for a total of three in your party.  21 years of age or older.

Wine tasting and beer drinking will start our evening at 6pm.  The normal winery fee for their wine tasting, glasses of wine or bottles of wine should be expected. In addition, the winery has two kegs of beer and bottles of beer. Both for a fee. Water and soft drinks will be included in the meal cost. My current thought for our dinner is a taco and burrito bar. The cost per person for the food, plates, plastic ware and soft drinks should be about $10.  When we get closer to the date,  I will need a head count from each of you for food planning.

Our speaker this evening will be Dr. Reiner Decher, retired University of Washington aeronautical engineering professor. Engineer, refugee, immigrant, American.  This is the story of one aeronautical engineer struggling through the turmoil of WW II and its aftermath. In Germany his father, Siegfried Decher, made the first jet engine in service controllable for the pilot and, later in the US, changed the shape of the big airliners we have today.  Reiner, our speaker, followed in his father's footsteps both literally and professionally. I foresee a truly interesting and stimulating evening with Dr. Decher.

So please put this date on your calendar!! More information to follow. And let me know if you have any questions at this time.  Ron
